Pharmacy Access Initiative (PAI)
The Pharmacy Access Initiative (PAI) works to increase awareness of New York State and federal policies that expand access to birth control directly through pharmacies. While these policies are designed to make contraception more accessible, many pharmacists and patients remain unaware of the changes. PAI equips members with the knowledge and tools they need to confidently engage with independent community pharmacists—ensuring that more patients are informed about their options.
Our Members
PAI brings together members from across New York—from Buffalo to Brooklyn—representing a diverse range of fields including pharmacy, public health, and political science. Through the initiative, members take on leadership roles, designing and implementing strategies that go beyond discussion and drive real, measurable progress in expanding birth control access.
What is our focus?
PAI focuses on three policy and regulatory changes:
- Pharmacist prescribed birth control
- Over-the-counter coverage of emergency contraception and Opill
- Up to 12 month supply of birth control
