We are leading a grassroots campaign to stock vending machines with emergency contraception on college and university campuses. The campaign involves social media outreach, paper and online petition drives, earned media efforts, and public events. Each participant also works with NYBCAP staff to meet with campus administrators to secure a place for emergency contraception in vending machines.
About the campaign
Emergency contraception is a safe form of birth control. It is available over-the-counter in pharmacies and can be easily and discreetly dispensed from vending machines.
There are several reasons why students are supportive of the measure, including preference for anonymity and privacy, 24/7 availability, and the convenience of vending machine locations.
New Yorkers deserve access to the birth control they want, when they want it – and proof of concept exists in New York and across the country. With this initiative, NYBCAP will make New York a national leader in this type of access by increasing the presence of emergency contraception vending machines.
